BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — A longtime Central Illinois state legislator has announced he will be stepping down in favor of family and personal commitments once his current term is over.
The announcement came on Monday from Bloomington Republican State Senator Jason Barickman.
He’s served in the Illinois General Assembly for a total of twelve years and in his announcement today, he indicated there are too many outside obligations to family, law practice and business in his personal life to continue serving effectively in elected office.
Barickman’s term officially ends on January 10, 2023.
In his announcement, Barickman said he wanted to give Illinois Republican Party leadership plenty of time to fill the vacancy before the next General Assembly is seated in January.
