PEKIN, Ill. – Tazewell County State’s Attorney Stewart Umholtz will become a judge a lot sooner than he anticipated.
Tenth Circuit Chief Judge Katherine Gorman says the Illinois Supreme Court has appointed Umholtz to become a resident circuit judge in Tazewell County, effective September 19th.
Umholtz is running unopposed for the job in the November election. He has been State’s Attorney since 1995.
Gorman describes Umholtz as being an “excellent addition” to the bench.
Umholtz has long advocated for Chief Assistant Kevin Johnson to replace him as State’s Attorney, and is running for the remaining two years of Umholtz’s State’s Attorney term.
“Stu Umholtz will be an excellent addition to the judiciary in the Tenth Circuit. On behalf of all judges in the Tenth Circuit, we welcome him and look forward to working with him.” — Tenth Judicial Circuit Chief Judge Katherine Gorman, in a news release
