PEORIA, Ill. — Three finalists have been selected by the Peoria City Council to fill Mayor Rita Ali’s vacant at-large seat.
Kim Armstrong, James Kemper and Kiran Velpula were picked from a field of candidates that included several former city council candidates and public figures.
Kim Armstrong is a Bradley graduate who served as Vice President of Marketing and Institutional Advancement at Illinois Central College. She was also Rita Ali’s campaign manager.
James Kemper, a local architect, finished third in the 2nd District City Council primary election in February.
Kiran Velpula is an assistant professor in the Cancer Biology & Pharmacology and Neurological Surgery departments at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria.
The candidates will be interviewed during a closed City Council session on June 8.
The deadline to fill the at-large seat is Saturday, July 3.
