PEORIA, Ill. — A local pharmacy company is stepping up to help the community during a time of struggle.
Alwan Pharmacy and Compounding Center in Morton and West Peoria is making hand sanitizer that will be given out to the public at no cost said Pharmacist Sam An.
“There are some quantity restrictions that will apply. We can’t have someone coming in and asking for 10 of them,” An said. “We’re limiting it to one bottle per household per day.”
The sanitizer is not a gel, but more like a spray because the pharmacy has strict guidelines to make the sanitzer.
“We are forbidden from adding any thickening agents, or perfume, or anything because that was not in the formula provided by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration),” An said.
An said that it is important to have this product available because while it is recommended to wash your hands with soap and water, not everyone has access to running water during the day.
“We understand the crisis that’s going on and we’re not out to make a buck, we just want to make sure that everyone in our community is safe,” An said.
