Local politicians are reacting to Governor Rauner’s budget speech. State Senator Chuck Weaver, of Peoria, says his fellow Republicans are ready to work at solving the budget impasse, but it’s going to take the good-faith negotiations by the Speaker of the House and the Senate President to get it done.
“The Governor takes responsibility for where we are, but the General Assembly also has to take responsibility for where we are,” says Weaver.
Weaver says we need long-term change that will help both local, struggling agencies and our state.
He says if Democrats don’t work with Republicans to find a middle ground, Governor Rauner should “be given the authority to manage within the current confines of what our budget has and what our current revenues are.”
