Industrial Accident Victim Identified

The Tazewell County Coroner has identified a Pekin man as the victim of an industrial accident at the Illinois Corn Processing Plant Monday.

Coroner James Baldi says 39-year-old Terry D. Ball, of Pekin was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, Illinois Corn Processing, at 1301 Front Street in Pekin at 11:38 a.m. Monday.

Pekin Police say a steel beam fell on top of Ball while he was working as part of a crew tearing down an old corn dryer at the plant.

“The large piece of steel fell on him and crushed him,” said Public Information Officer Mike Eeten.

Rescue personnel were dispatched to the plant just before 11 a.m.

“The firefighters worked hard to free him, but found that life saving measures were no longer effective,” says Eeten.

Eeten says the corn dryer hadn’t been in use for at least a decade.

An autopsy has been completed, and is pending facts to be gathered in a multiagency investigation.

OSHA is taking part in the investigation.
