SUV Strikes Wall Outside Governor’s Mansion

A car struck a wall outside the governor’s mansion in Springfield.

State Police say a Mercedes-Benz SUV, driven by Thunman Nils, 87, of Springfield, was exiting the mansion grounds at 8:23 p.m. Friday. Nils inadvertently pressed the accelerator and his vehicle struck the west side wall of the Illinois Executive Mansion grounds.

There were no injuries and no citations were issued.
