PEORIA, Ill. — A Peoria firefighter was injured while responding to a brush fire Monday afternoon.
Crews were called to a wooded area on West Reservoir Blvd. near Sterling Ave. in Peoria around 4 p.m.
Fire Battalion Chief Scott Strum said when they arrived, firefighters found a large fire in the woods, believed to have started in a pile of timber in the trees.
The fire was under control in about five minutes, but it took crews over half an hour to put it out completely.
The cause of that fire remains under investigation.
The firefighter who was hurt suffered an ankle injury. He was taken to an emergency room for evaluation.
