Music Mondays with Marc

We’re six months into 2018 and still some amazing music has been released. This week I have new music from 2 artists/groups that have been around since late 90’s early 2000 and a band I stumbled across at The Bonnaroo Music And Arts Festival in Tennessee back in 2017.

Jim James – Just A Fool

Jim James is the frontman, lead vocalist, guitarist and songwriter for the Louisville, Kentucky Band My Morning Jacket who burst out into the scene back in 1998 and a remarkably great live band. You might have seen them at The Peoria Civic Center back in 2013 when they were on the bill with Bob Dylan, Wilco and Richard Thompson. This track comes from his latest solo album that came out this past Friday called Uniform Distortion. If you’re a fan of The Grateful Dead and psychedelic music you will gravitate to not only Jim but his band My Morning Jacket.

Death Cab For Cutie – Gold Rush

Death Cab for Cutie are back with a new album since 2015 and the first since founding member and guitarist Chris Wall left the group. The new album their 9th called Thank You For Today will be released on August 17th. Hardcore music nerds take note, the band got their name from a song by The Bonzo Dog Do-Dah Band.

Rainbow Kitten Surprise – Fever Pitch

Part of the beauty of going to all the Summer time music festivals in various places around the country is looking at the lineup and being simply drawn to a name and making it a point to check them out. When I was at Bonnaroo Music And Arts Festival in 2017 on the schedule I saw a band name from Boone North Carolina that just screamed you need to check out. Now you never know what you could be up for but I was blown away at the tightness of the band and the quality of the songs. It’s nice to see them getting a bigger push in the music world. The good thing is you’ll never forget a name like Rainbow Kitten Surprise and what makes the name better is the band will be around for long time.
