A huge fire in Princeville overnight in Princeville.
The fire at 132 N. Walnut Street was reported just after 9 p.m. Monday at the Los Jimadores Mexican restaurant building.
Firefighters from 13 fire departments were called to assist Princeville crews on the scene.
Princeville Fire Chief Randy Haley told news partner 25 News that the fire was contained to the second floor. It appears that the building is a total loss.
The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office says four residents got out safely, though a cat died in the fire. The Red Cross was called in to assist them.
Crews remained on the scene overnight, clearing it just before 5 a.m. Tuesday.
N. Walnut Street remains blocked due to concerns that the building may collapse.
A portion of Rt. 91 also remains closed.
