SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – An Illinois Appellate Court is dealing a blow to Peoria County Auditor Jessica Thomas in her bid to stay in office.
The Fourth District Appellate Court in Springfield ruled in a December 21st decision denying Thomas’ request for a preliminary injunction that would have barred the Peoria County Election Commission from counting the ballots and certifying the November General Election results regarding the question of whether the County Auditor’s Office should be eliminated.
Voters approved of the elimination, even though state law would suggest Peoria County needs such a position.
Part of the initial filing had to do with the wording of the ballot question, and the fact that a draft version was inadvertently included, with the re-filing not in time.
The ruling pointed out that the question had to be “adopted” by the County Board within that time, and not “filed.”
