HOUSTON (FOX NEWS) — A Harris County deputy constable was shot to death and two other deputy constables were wounded early Saturday morning in what authorities are calling an ambush at a North Houston, Texas nightclub.
The shooting happened around 2:15 a.m. at the 45 North Bar and Lounge. The deputies were working an extra job at the club when they tried to respond to a disturbance outside the bar that may have been a robbery, according to Houston Police.
“It’s a tragedy, in that you know, I’ve got a dad there that I have to talk to, I’ve got a wife there, and they’ve got a deceased son and husband. I’ve got two other deputies, you know, that are in surgery,” Houston PD Executive Assistant Chief James Jones said.
A struggle with one person was interrupted when someone else opened fire with a rifle from behind the deputies, according to Houston Police.
One deputy was shot in the back, another was shot in the foot.
Houston Police said a person of interest was taken into custody Saturday morning near the scene of the incident, but it wasn’t clear if they were a witness or a suspect.
