An East Peoria man was electrocuted Saturday morning, identified as 62-year-old Gordon Sweatt.
A 911 call was received at 10:54 a.m. of a truck on fire in the 300 block of Terminal Street, East Peoria.
The East Peoria Fire Department and the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, crews located a tree-trimming bucket was on fire as a result of contact with an overhead power line.
EMS found Sweatt on the ground laying next to the truck. Crews could not reach the victim because the power line was contacting the truck’s boom and was still energized.
Ameren was called to cut the power. As soon as the scene was safe, crews were able to access the victim.
The Tazewell County Coroner, Charles Hanely, pronounced Sweatt dead at the scene at 12:15 p.m. Hanely confirmed the cause of death was from electrocution.
The case remains under investigation.
