Western Illinois Medical Marijuana Center Holding Job Fair

(AP) – A western Illinois medical marijuana cultivation center plans a weekend ribbon-cutting ceremony and job fair amid what its owners call heavy interest from prospective workers.

The Herald-Whig reports that Revolution Enterprises is holding the Saturday event at its Barry location. Company officials say that more than 1,000 people have applied for jobs at its cultivation center there and at a second site in Delavan.

Company spokesman Brad Vallerius says he expects the 75,000-sqare-foot Pike County facility to start growing medical cannabis by next week. The facility could eventually employ up to 70 workers, but will start with about a dozen employees.

The state Department of Agriculture told The Associated it has approved seven growers to start operating, but has declined to identify which ones.
