Registration for the Salvation Army holiday assistance programs has begun.

Tri-County Director of Development Rich Draeger says it is accepting applications from families this week for “Coats for Kids,” Christmas food baskets, and various toy giveaways, including the “Share the Spirit Party” at the Peoria Civic Center and the Salvation Army Christmas Toy Shop.

Applications are being taken at the Corps Community Center, 2903 W. Nebraska Avenue, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m through Thursday and from 9 a.m. until noon Friday of this week.

There will also be a “Coats for Kids” distribution this week at the Salvation Army’s Corps Community Center while the sign-ups are going on.

Draeger says individuals and families seeking assistance from the Salvation Army need to have proper ID, showing their current address.

“We do ask that they bring proof of their children, or grandchildren, if a grandma or grandpa are raising the kids,” Draeger said.

Draeger says families must provide a copy of the children’s birth certificates and medical cards to apply for the Salvation Army Christmas programs.

Holiday assistance sign-ups will move to the Salvation Army Corps Family Services Building, 417 NE Adams in Peoria, beginning November 8. The sign-ups will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m.
