Rollover Accident On I-74 Spills The Cheese

An accident on Interstate I-74 left cheese everywhere Thursday night.

Illinois State Police say a semi-truck was traveling on westbound I-74 between Goodfield and MortonĀ  just before 8:00 Thursday night, when it approached a disabled truck on the right shoulder.

The driver, Aurel Paun, 34, of Sterling Heights, Michigan, over corrected to avoid the truck and sideswiped it. The semi then struck a guard rail and rolled over, spilling a full load of cheese that was in the trailer.

A preliminary investigation into the crash by Illinois State Police indicates the cause was improper lane usage.

The accident shut down a lane of westbound I-74 traffic Thursday night, and crews spent several hours Friday morning cleaning up the cheese on the shoulder and ditch.
