The Red Cross needs more volunteers.

The Central and Southern Illinois Region of the American Red Cross is offering expedited training for new volunteers ready to assist with hurricane relief efforts from Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

The Red Cross expects that more volunteers will be needed in Texas, Florida and Georgia in the coming weeks as thousands remain in shelters in need of a safe place to stay, food, health services and emotional support.

The expedited ‘Just In Time’ training from the American Red Cross will allow new volunteers to be eligible to deploy once they complete the course and pass a background check.

The fast track training sessions will be held at various locations across the region in the next few weeks, but will be held September 16 and October 7 at the Red Cross Office, located at 311 W. John H. Gwynn Jr., Avenue in Peoria.

The training session is free, but registration is requested. All sessions are from 8:00-5:00. To register, call 309-662-0500 ext. 7428.
