Questions Remain If Accident Victim Was Properly Restrained

The investigation continues concerning a fatal accident in Peoria County and whether the seven-year-old victim was properly restrained.

Kieley Blakesley was pronounced brain dead Wednesday night at the Children’s Hospital of Illinois.

Blakesley was in the backseat of a car driven by Paige Stewart, 25, that apparently was in the wrong lane of Airport Road in Bartonville and struck another vehicle Tuesday morning.

The Peoria County coroner says Blakesley was restrained in a back seat shoulder/lap belt but the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office is investigating whether the girl should have been in a child safety seat.

An autopsy revealed Blakesley died from blunt force trauma and internal injuries.

Stuart was cited for a child restraint violation, driving in the wrong lane, failure to reduce speed and DUI based on the suspicion that drugs were involved.

Stuart’s five-year-old daughter was last listed in critical condition.
