Pekin Man Drowns In Peoria County

A Pekin man has drowned while on a fishing trip.

The Peoria County Coroner’s Office reports Richard Egli, 70, and a family member were fishing in a private lake along Reed City Road in Peoria County at 1:48 p.m. Friday.

The pair was in a two-person bass boat with a trolling motor.

The boat overturned when Egli stood up to free a fishing line that had became entangled in the motor, sending both people into the water.

Egli was pronounced dead at the scene. His family member escaped without injury.

An autopsy Saturday confirmed the cause of Egli’s death as drowning with a secondary condition of heart disease.

The Illinois Department of Conservation and the coroner’s office are investigating.
