The cause of a fire at a home in Peoria's North Valley that resulted in the death of two remains under investigation a day later.
Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll says an autopsy shows 83 year old Dorothy McDonald and her 65 year old son Stephen McDonald both died of soot and smoke inhalation. They were found in their home at 201 North East Rock Island after the fire early Tuesday morning.
Toxicology tests due back in a couple of weeks are expected to show carbon monoxide led to both deaths, with burns being a secondary cause. Peoria Firefighters continue to investigate the fire.
