The Interim District 150 Superintendent says education funding is typically used by Governors and legislators as a reason to increase taxes. Norm Durflinger questions if the Governor's proposed one percent tax increase will be treated by state government like another famed education revenue generator once was, that being the lottery. The Superintendent would also like to see the $1.3 billion dollars to be taken out of the education fund put back on top of the $1.5 billion a tax increae would raise when the economy improves. Durflinger is not sure the Governor's tax increase idea will get passed. The Superintendent is still proceeding with looking at more ways to make up the $6 to $8 million dollar shortfall the district expects by state cuts. Durflinger does appreciate the Governor saying education in Illinois is the state's best possible investment.
