State and local plows ready to clear roads

Illinois Department of Transportation District 4 spokesman Brian Williamson explains 115 trucks are ready for the snow and are now working the Interstates and other state highways across the 12 county district. Williamson advises motorists to be aware of the orange snow plows and allow plenty of room. He suggests to wear a seat belt and take it slow.

Williamson says the continuing snow system will produce a new challenge Tuesday and Tuesday night with blowing and drifting snow becoming a problem for both crews and motorists.

As Peoria moves into the final stretch of the winter season and with the latest snow system moving into the area, city of Peoria snowplowing crews are ready for the fight with mother nature again.

City Streets and Sewers manager David Haste says there is still a good supply of snow melting materials. He says the supplies are fine and the salt and sand won't be used until the roads are clear of a lot of the heavy snowfall.

Haste says city crews have been out treating roads since early Monday morning after the unexpected pre-dawn dusting of snow occurred.
