(AP) - Eric Brewer and Alexander Steen had goals as the St. Louis Blues beat Edmonton 2-1 on Thursday night and handed the Oilers their 12th straight loss. The Blues are 15-8-4 on the road. Dustin Penner scored for the Oilers (16-30-6), who are on an 0-10-2 skid and have dropped 19 of 20. Edmonton is approaching the franchise record winless streak of 14 games set in 1993. That team had 13 losses and one tie from Oct. 16-Nov. 7. Edmonton has the fewest points in the NHL, five behind Carolina. The Oilers have won only once in their last 16 at home.
(AP) - Troy Brouwer scored his second goal of the game 1:37 into overtime to lead the Chicago Blackhawks to a 4-3 victory Thursday night over the San Jose Sharks in a matchup between the NHL's top two teams. Brouwer scored one of three first-period goals for Chicago, which took a 3-0 lead before the midway point of the frame but needed overtime to beat the Sharks for the third time in four meetings. The Sharks managed to stay one point ahead of Chicago for the most points in the NHL. This was the final regular-season matchup between the teams. If the standings remain this way, the next time the teams could meet would be in the Western Conference finals.
