Sheriff McCoy Defends County's Actions Involving His Son

The actions following a September 27 car accident involving an off duty MEG agent while operating an unmarked police vehicle have come under scrutiny, partly because the agent is the Peoria County Sheriff's son.  32 year old Tyler McCoy wrecked the squad car while trying to avoid a deer in rural Peoria County. Tyler McCoy admitted he had been drinking the night of the accident.  He was not ticketed or did not undergo field sobriety tests.  The police report about the incident has not been released yet.  Tyler's father, Peoria County Sheriff Mike McCoy tells WMBD's Markley and Luciano the reports are not public yet because his son is inolved as a witness in a federal trial and still has some investigations to tie up in his undercover role with MEG.  The Sheriff says no one was trying to hide the fact the incident occured when asked to why the incident was not made public until Thursday.  The Sheriff also thinks the reporting deputy acted properly at the scene, and his son did not get special treament because of his relationship or by the fact he is a law officer.  Tyler McCoy was immediately relieved of his role with MEG unit, put back on patrol duty, then was  was suspended.  Sheriff McCoy says the matter is still under investigation.
