It was touch and go almost all the way up to the 2009 Methodist Red, White and Boom fireworks show thanks to the weather, but everyone went home happy. Rain plagued the Peoria area all day and into the evening and once that cleared out low hanging clouds were left behind. In the end though it didn't stop everyone from flooding the Peoria and East Peoria riverfronts and they were sent home happy with the biggest fireworks show in downstate Illinois. The casualty to the weather was the mini air show that was scheduled to perform for an hour before the fireworks. It never got off the ground due to the low ceiling. The region saw $80,000 worth of fireworks light up the Peoria and East Peoria skyline. That was once again a new record.
