A report of an attempted mugging on the eastern edge of Bradley University was apparently untrue.
A 22-year-old student told police earlier this week that she was attacked at the corner of Bradley Avenue and Duryea Place around 4:00 a.m. Monday. She initially told police that a black man came up behind her, put a knife to her throat, and tried to take her wallet and phone. She told police that she was able to escape after she kicked her assailant in the groin.
The initial report said the woman was walking home, alone, after having a fight with her boyfriend.
Late Thursday night, a university spokesperson contacted 1470 & 100.3 WMBD and said the incident never happened. According to the Bradley University Police Department, the alleged victim admitted that she fabricated the story.
The spokesperson was unable to relay why the woman may have lied about the attack.
