Replace Or Upgrade Aging Bridge?

The Illinois Department of Transportation held an open house Tuesday night to get feedback from people about what should become of the eastbound span of the McClugage Bridge.

"That span of the bridge was built in 1948 so it's reaching the end of its service life," said IDOT Spokesman Brian Williamsen.

He says a project to upgrade or replace the bridge altogether won't begin until 2018, but they wanted to get feedback as early as possible.

"You know, that alternative looks good to me, or that alternative. We want to hear from people, so we're very interested in reading the comments."

IDOT says it has $210 million budgeted for the project.
