Protecting Illinois' Pregnant And Working Moms

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed a measure today that aims to curb workplace discrimination against pregnant women and working moms.

Workplace protections will include requiring employers to consider accommodations on manual labor and providing adequate break space for breast feeding.

State Senator Toi Hutchinson, who sponsored the measure, says "It's the same situation as an employee who may have an injury affecting their work and may ask for modified duties, like being able to sit down."

The new law outlines penalties for employers that don't comply with guidelines set up by the state.

It takes effect in January.
