Law enforcement is on the lookout for a man accused of trying to abduct a child at a restaurant in Pekin.
Police say Thomas Anthony, 55, of Dubuque, Iowa, tried to lure a six-year-old boy away from his mother at Hardee’s on North 5th Street on Sunday morning. The situation allegedly began when Anthony struck up a conversation with the boy, who was eating with his two siblings and mother. After talking with them for a while, he left the restaurant.
Police say when the mother took one of the children to restroom, Anthony reappeared. Again, he reportedly spoke with the six-year-old boy, and convinced him to walk outside of the restaurant with him.
Three witnesses were able to intervene before the child could be taken away. Police say Anthony left after a brief confrontation with the men who stepped in to help. As he was leaving, one of the men who stopped the possible abduction was also able to grab a picture of Anthony’s red Ford Ranger pickup truck, which has an Iowa license plate reading 400YYG.
Police say Anthony is not only wanted as a person of interest in this case, but he also has an unrelated warrant out of Henry County. Anthony is 6’1” tall, weighs about 180 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes. If you spot him, or his truck, please call 911 immediately.
