School Zone signs tell you to slow down when children are present.
But, that's kind of vague.
Lt. Steve Roegge with Peoria Police says as a guideline, anytime during the school day, whether kids are outside or not, drivers should slow down in school zones.
Peoria Police will be out near a number of Peoria School Zones in the first few weeks of school, but will be paying special attention to the corner of Monroe and Mary, where 11-year-old Trever Chick was killed when he ran into traffic on May 5th on his way to Lincoln School.
Lt. Roegge reminds drivers that it is illegal to use a cellphone even with a hands-free device in a school zone.
District 150 students are back in class on Monday.
