Teachers Spend Own Money On Classrooms

Peoria District 150 students return for another school year on Monday loaded up with new backpacks and school supplies.

Hines Primary firstg rade teacher Liza Fitzpatrick says she's spent the past four days getting her classroom ready for a new bunch of kids. She expects to have about 20 students in her class this year.

District 150 gives teachers about $100.00 each year to help them set up their classrooms, but the teachers kick in their own money as well.

"I've spent about $200.00, at least", says Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick has been teaching first grade at Hines Primary for two years, but has been a teacher for 10 years. She says she's excited about the new school year.

District 150 teachers have also been busy this week with meetings and the All-Staff Rally at Bradley University.
