The Peoria District 150 school board has scheduled a series of meetings next week to interview the eight applicants for its District 3 vacancy.
The board will adjourn into executive sessions Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 5:00 p.m. each day in the district's Administration Building.
Sources tell 1470 & 100.3 WMBD each applicant will be interviewed individually. Four of the applicants will be interviewed Tuesday and the remaining four Wednesday. Thursday's session is reserved in case board members want to call back someone for a second interview or begin deliberations toward filling the vacancy.
The District 3 seat became vacant July 1 when Sue Wolstenholm, who defeated former board member Laura Petelle in the March election, resigned immediately after being sworn in.
Pettelle is one of the eight applicants for her former board seat. The others include: former Morton Dist. 709 school board member Nancy Overcash, Change150 endorsed applicant Dan Adler, former Peoria County Board member Jeff Lickiss, retiree Melvin McCaw, Peoria High School parent Phil Romanis, District 150 parent and CSE Software, Inc. Vice-President Lara Aaron and Richwoods High School parent Jon Bateman, who is involved with the District's "Parents as Leaders" program inititated last school year.
Whoever is appointed will serve until the next school board election next spring. That winner will serve the remainder of the seat's five-year term through June 30, 2019. The board hopes the appointee will be sworn in during its next regularly scheduled meeting August 11. The board has until August 14 to fill the vacancy.
The board will open each meeting in public, then immediately adjourn to executive sesson after roll call to conduct the inteviews. The board will return to regular session after all interviews each day are over. There will be a period of public comment, but that will be near the end of the meetings and each speaker will be allotted three minutes to address the board.
