Running Central opened its new location at 311 Water Street in Peoria's Warehouse District Tuesday morning.
"I'm on cloud 900," said owner Adam White, clad in a white blazer and accompanied by his wife Marie at the grand opening.
"It's been a long time coming, and to see this dream become a reality is very exciting and humbling."
Running Central left Peoria for Peoria Heights in 2011, and White says this return to downtown Peoria is all about the customers.
"We just needed more space to offer both products and programming."
He says the new location, at about 20,000 square feet, is three times larger than the old one.
The Water Street location features a runway where people can try out their new shoes, and a kids zone where the little ones can get the right shoes for them.
White says he has 12 full and 12 part-time employees, and he hopes to be up to 20 and 20 over the next year if things go according to plan.
"You can't get any better service than Running Central, and we're really glad they're part of our region," said East Peoria Mayor Dave Mingus as his granddaughter Julia was getting her first pair of running shoes.
