Wolstenholm To Resign Tuesday

The Peoria District 150 school board seat now held by Laura Petelle will officially become vacant Tuesday, July 1.

Sue Wostenholm, who defeated Petelle in the March election but said she would not serve, tells 1470 & 100.3 WMBD she will resign during Tuesday's school board meeting.

The board meeting Tuesday will coincide with the start of the new fiscal year and is the meeting during which a new president will be selected.

Wolstenholm dropped out of the school board race, but too late to get her name off the ballot.

The group Change150, unhappy with the reassignment of former Charter Oak Primary School principal John Wetterauer and two teachers over ISAT testing irregularities, then rallied support of Wolstenholm's name in an effort to oust Petelle and send a message. Wolstenholm gathered 69 percent of the vote.

Following the election, Wolstenholm had continued to say she would not serve on the board but had yet to resign.

Following Wolstenholm's resignation, board members will have 45 days to fill the District 3 vacancy.

Change150 has recommended former Peoria City Council candidate Dan Adler for the vacancy. The board is not required to approve that recommendation.

While board members have not officially announced a procedure to fill the vacancy, they will likely set a timetable for interested parties to apply for the board seat and accept resumes. That will be followed by an interview process.

Whoever is appointed to the board will serve until the next school board election next spring. The winner of that election will serve the remainder of the District 3 term until 2019.

Petelle has not said whether she will be interested in being reappointed to the board.
