Appellate Court Backs D-150 School Board

The Illinois Appellate Court says the Peoria School District 150 Board legally dismissed fifty teachers during a reduction-in-force, or RIF, back in 2012.

The opinion, issued this week, was in response to a lawsuit filed by two of those teachers, who claimed the board violated tenure laws when vacancies arose in the district and they were not rehired.

The court agreed with the board that a 2011 update to Illinois tenure laws meant the teachers, who were deemed "unsatisfactory," were not protected.
