"When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors"

That's the advice from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency during Lightning Safety Awareness Week June 22nd through the 28th.

IEMA officials remind you, if you're close enough to hear thunder take shelter immediately, because you're close enough to get struck by lightning.

On average, 50 people are killed annually by lightning strikes in the U.S., with more than 70 percent of those happening in June, July and August when people are outside more often.

Seven people have been killed by lightning so far this year, none in Illinois.
