Peoria Police Chief Steve Settingsgaard has packed up his office.
Settingsgaard announced last month that he was stepping down, effective June 15. He is heading to Caterpillar to serve as the company's North America Region Security Director.
"I'll be involved in various aspects of security for CAT, from protection of property to protection of the people that work there," Settingsgaard said.
He says he'll miss the people with whom he's worked and forged relationships with, but admits he'll be glad to be out of the public light. Settingsgaard's time in Peoria has been scarred by a few controversies, most recently his role in the @peoriamayor debacle.
"The common phrase for police chiefs, and I think even city manager types, is 'you die the death of a thousand cuts,'" Settingsgaard said.
Assistant Chief Jerry Mitchell will serve as interim Chief. City officials have already begun a search for Settingsgaard's full-time replacement.
