PIA Sees More Big Numbers

The streak continues for Peoria International Airport.

Airport officials say more than 112,000 passengers flew though PIA in April and May, beating last year's total by roughly 6,000. The news comes on the heels of a record-setting March, in which PIA handled more than 59,000 passengers.

"The simplicity of travel, competitive fares and a strong local economy have encouraged new and returning business and leisure travelers. The robust use of the airport by Central Illinois travelers helps sustain our large number of airline destinations",said Director of Airports Gene Olson in a news release.

PIA officials say the three most recent record months represent a nearly seven percent increase in passenger travel over March, April, and May 2013. Overall, 2014 is shaping-up to break the previous passenger record set in 2013.
