Sunday Bus Routes Up And Running

For the first time in its history, CityLink sent buses out of the downtown Peoria station on a Sunday morning.

Dozens of people lined up at the transit center Sunday to take advantage of the new service. The extra day of bus service is starting small for now with nine routes winding their way throughout the city.

"We feel that these nine routes will provide the greatest coverage for the city of Peoria," said spokesperson Anna Buehrer.

She says CityLink expects ridership will be lower than what is seen Monday through Friday, but it is still a huge help to those who use it.

"It's an exciting day for our passengers, it's something that they've been asking for," Buehrer said.

Representatives from Bike Peoria were also at the downtown station to support the addition of Sunday routes and to encourage people to "think outside the box they drive in."

"There's a great relationship between buses and bikes. Maybe your bus stop is too far to walk to, but you can just hop on your bike to get there. Then you can throw you bike on the bus and take it to wherever you need to go," said Per Ellington.

If the routes do well, CityLink may look to add a few more routes on Sundays to fill-in any gaps in service that show up.
