A school district protest group says it will unveil its plans for the future this week.
Change150 has scheduled a news conference for Thursday afternoon to announce the candidate it will endorse to replace Sue Wolstenholm on the Peoria School District 150 Board of Education. Wolstenholm's campaign for the March School Board election was taken over by Change150 after she said she would not serve. Using Wolstenholm's name, the organization was able to swing the election to beat incumbent Laura Petelle.
Since then, an "independent vetting committee" has been searching for a candidate that Change150 can endorse to replace Wolstenholm when she officially yields her seat. The School Board has 45 days to select a replacement starting July 1, or 45 days from after Wolstenholm resigns if she does so after July 1. The School Board, which has its own selection process, does not have to consider Change150's recommendation.
Change150 says, in addition to naming a candidate or candidates, it will outline the vetting procedure used in selecting its endorsement at the news conference set for 4:30 p.m. at the Landmark Banquet Facility. Wolstenholm herself is also expected to issue statements.
The group says several members of the selection committee will be attending the event as well. If that claim holds true, it will be the first time the identities of those serving on the panel have been made public.
The person selected by the School Board to replace Wolstenholm will serve for one year, then a special election will be held to find a person to serve a full, five-year term.
