Peoria County is asking you to pay a little bit more when you send in your 2013 tax bill. But don't worry, it's not a tax hike.
The County Board on Thursday approved including a flyer in residents' bills asking taxpayers for donations to build a new memorial for Peoria County veterans.
"We would like this to be a community project, rather than just having the county write a check," said County Clerk Steve Sonnemaker, who chairs the committee putting the project together.
The new monument would join the Civil War and World Wars I & II memorials currently standing outside the county courthouse. Sonnemaker says the latest fundraising effort was done when the World War I and II memorial was put up a few years ago, raising more than $100,000.
The flyer that will be inserted in the 2013 tax bills gives you the option to buy memorial bricks, which range from $150 to $500.
