The partial government shutdown has a local veteran very worried.
On the House Floor Tuesday, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos shared the story of Joe Burton, a decorated veteran from Monmouth.
"This tough guy is literally frightened about the shutdown, and what it will do to his V.A. disability payments," said Bustos.
She says if Burton's benefits aren't there, he might not be able to pay his bills or even for his next meal.
"And more than anything, he just wants to do know how veterans like him across the country are going to make ends meet, it we don't get this solved."
Bustos, Illinois' 17th District Congresswoman, is calling for lawmakers to come together and re-open the government so veterans like Joe can sleep a little easier.
