On Friday night, Peoria police arrested Amanda M. Ludwig, a Manual Academy teacher, based upon an investigation conducted jointly by the Peoria Police Department and Peoria Public Schools School Resource Officers. The teacher was taken into custody Fridaynight at the Manual basketball game after being identified by School Resource Officers.
Ludwig reportedly has been charged by Federal criminal complaint with enticing a minor for sex in violation of Federal law, and is being held in custody at the Peoria CountyJail. She is scheduled to appear before United States Magistrate Judge John A. Gorman sometime Monday, February 4, 2013.
District and school staff immediately initiated the investigation based on a tip received Friday during the school day. This information was turned over to Peoria Police and the investigation continued.
“We commend our School Resource Officers and Administrators for the professional and immediate approach in which they have handled this investigation,” said Superintendent Dr. Grenita Lathan. “The accusations made against a staff member are serious and we will continue tofully cooperate and provide whatever support is necessary through the entire investigation.”
Counselors and support staff will be provided for students during the day on Monday.
