More information is released surrounding the death of a four-month old baby boy.
Amarion Simmons died at the Children's Hospital of Illinois Thursday afternoon. The baby was taken to the hospital by family in a private vehicle late Wednesday morning after being found unresponsive by his father at their house on Northeast Rock Island.
The Peoria County Coroner's Office says the baby was placed on his stomach in an adult-sized bed in an upstairs bedroom with his head turned to the side. When his dad found him, the baby was still on his stomach, but was face down.
The father called his stepmother, who is a nurse and lives near by, rather than calling 9-1-1 and it was determined to take the baby to the hospital by private vehicle.
The investigation continues. An autopsy will be conducted Friday.
