A former Peoria Police officer is sentenced to 90 days in jail. John Couve pleaded guilty to attempted obustruction of justice in Peoria County Court on Thursday.
Couve was involved in a crash of an unmarked squad car while off duty last summer. He and another officer were accused of attempting to give false information about the crash just after it happened.
Couve also retired from the police department Thursday morning. He was on the force for 25 years.
8 other counts were dropped in the plea deal. Under the terms, Couve can receive his pension when he turns 50 in about 4 years. He also can apply elsewhere to be a police officer.
Couve was also charged with a DUI after crashing the car. He is still involved in another case related to the same incident. That hearing is scheduled in March.
