An early morning shooting in Peoria is the third homicide in five days.
Peoria Police Chief Steve Settingsgaard tells WMBD the shooting happened just before 1:00am, outside a home at 1501 Howett Street, just two blocks from where a gang-related homicide occurred Sunday night.
The victim, identified as Brandon Thomas, 25, of Quincy, was found near an alley behind the house. Thomas had suffered a gunshot wound to the head.
The Peoria County Coroner's Office says Thomas' mother and father live in Peoria. Family members say it was not unusual for Thomas to travel back-and-forth from Quincy to Peoria.
Settingsgaard wouldn't say if the latest homicide is gang-related or not.
He did say that "Don't Shoot" is already targeting the new gang identified as responsible for the Sunday night homicide.
