Creve Coeur's Police Chief says there's still mystery to the accident last weekend which has left one dead and another still in critical condition.
Chief Pete Fisher says 2 Pekin men were found unresponsive on Route 29 after their vehicle hit a concrete sign support near I-474 early last Sunday.
The passenger, 24 year old Christopher Shingleton, died from his injuries Thursday. The driver, 23 year old Phillip James, remains in critical condition.
The pair had been drinking at a Peoria bar late into the night before the crash.
They then stopped for breakfast in East Peoria on the way back to Pekin, before the accident happened.
Chief Fisher says it's possible both victims might have fallen asleep just before they crashed.
The Chief says both of their blood alcohol levels were above the legal limit, but the levels were not extreme.
James has been ticketed for DUI and failure to reduce speed.
