An explosion at Enviro-Safe in Pekin injured four people, three of them seriously, Tuesday afternoon. Enviro-Safe bottles refrigerants. The explosion happened just after 3:00p.m. and caved in a corner of the building and sent bricks onto nearby railroad tracks.
Four employees were taken to OSF St. Francis Medical Center with burns. Two of them, a 50-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman, were then Life-Flighted to OSF's Burn Unit at St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.
A 52-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman remain at OSF St. Francis. The man is listed in serious condition, the woman in fair condition. Both are being treated for burns and inhalation injuries.The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
