Retired 30 Year High Ranking Peoria Police Officer Dies Suddenly
A retired, long time high ranking Peoria Police officer has died. Phil Benne passed away at OSF St. Francis Medical Center Tuesday morning. Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll says Benne was brought to the hospital Tuesday morning about 900am after he collapsed at home, while experiencing chest pains and shortness of breath.
Ingersoll says Benne was pronounced dead at 1020am. Benne retired from the Peoria Police Department in 2008. He was on the force for 30 years, reaching the rank of Captain. Ingersoll says Benne's death appears to be cardiac related.
