Campaign Ellen is underway

Campaign Ellen is underway. It's an effort to get popular talk show host Ellen DeGeneres to appear at this year's Women's Lifestyle Show October 27th. It's getting started with a postcard campaign.

Pre-addressed postcards are available at a number of locations, including all Krogers and PNC Banks, with room for you to write a message to Ellen telling her why she should "Play in Peoria."

Joy Miller with the Women's Lifestyle Show says she got a call from Ellen's office just this (Wednesday) morning. “We are on their radar, they have already received a video we sent them,” says Miller. “They are contemplating it, but we really have to push as a community for Campaign Ellen.”

Miller is hoping Ellen's office is bombarded with postcards similar to the courtroom scene in the movie “Miracle on 34th Street. “We're hoping there will be bags and bags of these cards showing up at her office. We feel if she sees something really visible, it will make a difference.”

Miller says time is of the essence, since Ellen's people said she would make a decision on coming to Peoria "soon."

As part of an incentive package to appear in Peoria, Caterpillar has offered to allow Ellen to operate a D-11 bulldozer, Maui Jim will let Ellen design her own pair of sunglasses and an anonymous donor has offered a private jet to fly her to and from Peoria.

The Women's Lifestyle Show is also hoping to raise $100,000 for this year's Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure by getting 300 new people to sign up for the race under "Team Ellen." Team members will get a special pink race t-shirt and those who wear that shirt to the Women's Lifestyle Show will get in free.
